Spring 2025Essential Mathematics for Developing Algebraic and Geometric Thinking in the Middle Grades (Grades 6-8)Wednesdays: January 29 and February 5 (9:00 am – 2:00 pm) in the RUSMP classroom, 5615 Kirby Dr. Suite 300This course is designed for middle school mathematics teachers who are seeking a strong foundation in algebra and geometry for Grades 6-8. The course provides strategies for developing students’ algebraic and geometric reasoning and emphasizes the use of mathematical models and representations, and symbolic reasoning. Concepts are aligned with the TEKS.The topics that will be explored in this course include:• Proportional and non-proportional reasoning • Function families through multiple representations• Solving equations • Lines and angles• Perimeter, area, and volume• Triangles and the Pythagorean Theorem• Algebraic and geometric transformationsEach teacher will receive course materials and professional development credit.Enrollment is limited.The fee for this course is $500. An invoice for this amount will be sent to your school. Payment must be made prior to the first class meeting.
