Exploring Algebraic Reasoning in Grades 3-5

Tuesdays: January 28 and February 4 (9:00 am – 2:00 pm)
in the RUSMP classroom, 5615 Kirby Dr. Suite 300

This course is designed for elementary teachers who are seeking a strong foundation in algebra content for grades 3-5. The primary focus of the course is learning beginning algebra with an emphasis on mathematical models and representations, variables and functions, and symbolic reasoning. Concepts are aligned with the TEKS.

The topics that will be explored in this course include:
• Algebraic thinking and symbolic reasoning
• Function concepts
• Tools for problem solving
• Underpinnings of algebraic thinking in elementary mathematics
• Use of manipulatives and technology to explore algebraic concepts

Each teacher will receive course materials and professional development credit.

Enrollment is limited.

The fee for this course is $500. An invoice for this amount will be sent to your school. Payment must be made prior to the first class meeting.
